Use ChatGPT to work on a Windows PC

MapleMCP turns an enrolled Windows computer into a set of explicit MCP tools. ChatGPT can inspect or change the machine when you ask, without assuming that the AI has unrestricted administrator access.

Files

Work inside configured allowed directories: read and write files, create directories, inspect metadata, move items, and make exact text edits.

Search

Find files or search file contents with bounded results. This can be enabled independently from terminal access.

PowerShell and command-line work

The Processes/terminal capability can start commands, keep managed sessions open, provide input, and retrieve output. The command runs with the agent user's Windows permissions.

Processes and diagnostics

Inspect running processes, request termination of a verified PID, and read MapleMCP/system diagnostic information.

Example workflow: diagnose before changing

Select the PC.

Ask MapleMCP for your device list and identify the intended Windows endpoint.

Collect evidence.

Read the relevant configuration or log, search for a known setting, inspect a process, or run a non-destructive diagnostic command.

Explain the proposed fix.

The AI can summarize what it found before a write, command, or process action changes the machine.

Apply the authorized change.

Use the narrowest capability needed, then verify the result from the same endpoint.

Least privilege by default

The Windows AI-facing agent is designed to run as the enrolled interactive user rather than as a system administrator. New desktop enrollments default file access to the user's home directory unless local policy is deliberately changed. A task that requires privileges the Windows user does not have should fail rather than being silently elevated.

Processes/terminal access is powerful. A command can reach files, networks, and programs available to that Windows user, so enable it only on devices where you intend to use it.

Multiple Windows PCs, one conversation

MapleMCP does not require the AI client to run on the PC being managed. If several Windows computers are enrolled in the same account, ChatGPT can list them and target the specific device needed for the task.

Can ChatGPT run PowerShell on my Windows PC?

Yes when the Processes/terminal capability is enabled for that enrolled PC. The command runs with the permissions of the MapleMCP Windows agent user.

Does MapleMCP install as SYSTEM?

The AI-facing agent is designed to run as the enrolled interactive user, not as a system administrator. Installation may perform setup work, but remote AI operations use the configured agent identity.

Can I allow file search without allowing commands?

Yes. Search is an independently selectable capability group on desktop endpoints.

Can ChatGPT manage a Windows PC while I am away from it?

The MapleMCP connection is remote, so the AI client does not need to be on the same PC. The enrolled machine still needs to be online and connected.
